Meditation is simply the practice of returning — again and again — to the present moment.

The 5-minute practice

  1. Sit tall and let the shoulders soften.
  2. Take three deep breaths, sighing out through the mouth.
  3. Let the breath become natural. Count each exhale from 1 to 10.
  4. When the mind wanders, notice it kindly and start again at 1.
  5. Finish by rubbing the palms together and placing them over the eyes.

Consistency matters more than duration. Five minutes daily beats one hour once a month.
